Everything you need to get the most out of Quillmatic.

What is a Matter?

A matter is a legal case or file. It is the central record in Quillmatic — everything else (clients, courts, opposing counsel, adverse parties) connects to it. Each matter has a number, name, type, status, and date opened.

Creating a New Matter

  1. Click Matters in the navigation bar.
  2. Click the + New Matter button in the top right.
  3. Fill in the matter number, name, type, and status.
  4. Select the court from the dropdown (you must add the court first).
  5. Click Save Matter. You can link parties after saving.

Linking Parties to a Matter

After creating a matter, open it by clicking its row in the Matters list. Click Edit to enter edit mode. You will see a Link Parties section where you can:

  • Select a client and their party type (Petitioner, Respondent, Plaintiff, Defendant)
  • Select opposing counsel and their role
  • Select an adverse party and their party type

Click Save Party Links when done. The linked records will appear in the matter detail view with hyperlinks to their individual record pages.

Adding Clients, Courts, Attorneys, and Adverse Parties

Each category has its own page in the navigation. Go to the relevant page and click the Add button to create a new record. All records are searchable and sortable. Click any row to open the detail page where you can edit or delete the record.

Editing and Deleting Records

Open any record by clicking its row in the list. On the detail page, click Edit to modify the record, or Delete to permanently remove it. Deletions cannot be undone.
